When have I ever considered that someone might have a different love language than me? How they receive and give love?

Most of my frustrations and arguments with me and my new hubby [since 7/23 heh heh…] have come from this factoid: He has a different way of giving and receiving love! Who knew?!?!

But in all seriousness, I have a love language of receiving love thru people helping me out with things that I would not want to do…etc. I do have to remember that Calvin does not have that love language or it’s not the one he likes doing… his love language is quality time.

What does that mean in terms of showing how we love one another?

Well, for one thing it means that I get pretty frustrated at his laziness when say, he doesn’t clean up his side of the room fast enough… or when he says he will do one thing and then postpone doing it until I bug him every 10 seconds to do it [… okay maybe not THAT much.. but you get the point]. 

On the other hand, it makes him frustrated when I go off and do other things while not finding time to spend with him; his love language is quality time. He receives love when I spend time to chat with him after a long and stressful day. Ask how things went with all the 1294 houses he’s in charge of [okay most is 20]. 

Long story short, there are many maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany different things we need to learn about each other in the context of marriage. Most importantly, it is how to give God the glory in everything we say or do. We are united in and through Christ, who gave His life for us because we sinned waaaaaay back when. We don’t have to suffer for that anymore because He already has.

My heart is breaking from all the pictures from the destruction of Hurrican Harvey… no amount of “feeling sorry” or “look how they’re wading in the water” or being distant from there and not doing anything will help the victims. These are actual people who lost most if not all everything they had.
These are the people who lost loved ones
These are people who lost practically all things. Possessions. Memories. Photos. Their house that got renovated by their father recently But I know God has a reason for this. He knows we’re suffering, He sees us in pain and also when we band together to help others. Let us come together as we help fellow people rebuild and restore what is lost. And pray

In looking at these situations we often feel very very hopeless and don’t know if what we DO do is going to help people in times of need.

Here’s what we can start to do in the midst of all this:

I waited patiently for the Lord ; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord . Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.
